- Thanks for reading my posting. Hopefully you might have some answers for
- what has become the MODEM PROBLEM FROM HELL!!! The problem is that I am
- intermittently getting Disconnected... sometimes I'm connected to my ISP
- for 5 mins, sometimes 45 mins, but it always ends with me getting
- disconnected. Here's the vitals: I've tried a Motorola 28.8 Lifestyle
- and a USR Sportster, still got knocked off and I verified that both modems
- work fine by connecting them up to my PC at work and they'll run all day
- without a problem. Since they're both externals and I had 'em on com2
- I tried them on com1... no change. Found out I had the SMC Multi I/O
- chip that has had it's share of problems and bad press, so I put in
- another serial board with a genuine 16550AF UART and called it com3.
- Still got disconnected. I was using Internet Chameleon so I switched
- to Trumpet Winsock... Still got knocked off. Hmmmmm...... I have tried
- different serial cables, phone cords, ect but now I'm starting to suspect
- the phone line itself. Am I MAD??? It's really driving me NUTS!!! I
- cannot pin it down to a certain time of the day, happens with WinVn,
- Netscape, Free Agent, so I can't say it's s/w specific either. Hmmmmmmmm
- mmmmm.... different ports, modems, cables, winsocks...WHAT's NEXT!!!
- Any help or info is very much appreciated!!!
- Regards,
- Scott
