  12. Thanks for reading my posting.  Hopefully you might have some answers for
  13. what has become the MODEM PROBLEM FROM HELL!!!  The problem is that I am
  14. intermittently getting Disconnected... sometimes I'm connected to my ISP
  15. for 5 mins, sometimes 45 mins, but it always ends with me getting 
  16. disconnected.  Here's the vitals:  I've tried a Motorola 28.8 Lifestyle
  17. and a USR Sportster, still got knocked off and I verified that both modems
  18. work fine by connecting them up to my PC at work and they'll run all day
  19. without a problem.  Since they're both externals and I had 'em on com2
  20. I tried them on com1... no change.  Found out I had the SMC Multi I/O 
  21. chip that has had it's share of problems and bad press, so I put in 
  22. another serial board with a genuine 16550AF UART and called it com3.
  23. Still got disconnected.  I was using Internet Chameleon so I switched
  24. to Trumpet Winsock... Still got knocked off.  Hmmmmm...... I have tried
  25. different serial cables, phone cords, ect but now I'm starting to suspect
  26. the phone line itself.  Am I MAD??? It's really driving me NUTS!!!  I 
  27. cannot pin it down to a certain time of the day, happens with WinVn, 
  28. Netscape, Free Agent, so I can't say it's s/w specific either. Hmmmmmmmm
  29. mmmmm.... different ports, modems, cables, winsocks...WHAT's NEXT!!!
  30. Any help or info is very much appreciated!!!
